The Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass is the <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #34393a;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><b>current \u201cgold standard\u201d weight reduction surgery<\/b><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #34393a;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\">. It is the operation in which all other bariatric surgeries are compared.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #34393a;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"> The surgery is performed laparoscopically wherein the upper part of the stomach is stapled-off to create a small gastric pouch.\u00a0A portion of the small bowel, the jejunum, is divided and attached \u00a0to the small stomach pouch.\u00a0The other small bowel end is joined back to the small bowel.\u00a0With this re-routing, the remainder of the stomach and the top end of the small intestine (duodenum) are bypassed.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #34393a;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"> This operation has higher long-term rate of Type 2 Diabetes remission than restrictive procedures.
